![]() The IAA Mobility Munich kicks off on the 5th of September. Given that the IAA is spread out across Munich, not just centred in one hall, that could be a handy way of getting around the show. While the EQB is also a crossover SUV and likely to come at a surprisingly low price for an LEV, there are significant differences between the two. Mercedes will also allow show-goers to take passenger rides in a lineup of electric and hybrid cars, including that astonishing EQXX concept. But in order for a new electric crossover like the 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC to be competitive, a 220-mile day trip needs to be totally doable without having to stop and recharge. Oh, and you will almost certainly be able to see the production version of the all-electric G-Class (neé G-Wagen) as Mercedes says that: "fans of driving on challenging terrain will have their first camouflaged glimpse of the electric series-production future of a Mercedes-Benz off-road icon." It will also mark the debut of the new All-Terrain 4x4 version of the new E-Class estate, and Merc will also bring along the dramatic electric Vision One-Eleven concept car, which harks back to the experimental C-111 supercars of the 1970s. Mercedes will go all-in on electric and plug-in hybrid power for the Munich show. ![]() ![]() And with Mercedes-AMG variants, the level of power and performance is. Ranging from the compact, crossover-style of the GLA to the midsize GLC and full-size GLS with a standard third row, our SUV lineup accounts for all styles. That's what used to be the massive Frankfurt motor show, but which has now moved to Munich and which takes place in early September. Experience the best of all worlds with the agility, versatility and luxury of a Mercedes-Benz SUV. The EQA and EQB are also getting some updates this year and, along with the revised EQV van-based MPV, will sit alongside the new electric four-door at the upcoming IAA motor show. Maybe more? Well, maybe - Mercedes has previously said that this model would take inspiration and technology from the EQXX electric concept car, which has proved capable of putting more than 1,000km between recharges in real-world conditions. It will share its underpinnings with Mercedes' existing compact electric SUVs, the EQA and EQB, so expect a one-charge range approaching 500km. The new EV version will be its entry-segment electric model, says Mercedes. The CLA - compact four-door coupe that shares its underpinnings with the A-Class and GLA crossover - is itself getting an update this year, with revised styling and upgraded petrol and plug-in hybrid power. There’s just one powertrain and battery option, but three different trim levels to choose from in the UK – all of which fit an AMG Line styling package with varying levels of extra tech and leather.Mercedes is about to introduce a direct rival to the Tesla Model 3, with a new electric four-door based on the CLA. The EQC has been on sale for a while now, but in mid-2023 prices start at £74,330, with monthly deals at around £649 per month. The range is 259 miles WLTP, depending on wheels (some low-drag ones are available) and the rather funky running boards (which actually improve matters). While the Rivian is aimed at outdoorsy adventurers, the Mercedes is a lavish, luxurious electric analog. It doesn't spread right out to the sills but instead has about 10cm of extra impact-absorbing structure either side. Now there are three, with the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and Rivian R1S arriving this fall. Mercedes is big on safety, so it's made the EQC's battery narrower than rivals. Just as well it's a low-drag car, since the battery doesn't have a huge capacity at 80kWh gross. Instead, what matters is low drag, and the EQC gets a Cd of just 0.28. ![]() He claims weight doesn't greatly affect range because you can regenerate more from a heavy car – here it's up to 240bhp feeding back into the battery. ![]() The EQC's chief engineer gladly admits that because it's thus adapted, it's 150kg heavier than it would be if it were entirely bespoke (although somehow the newer EQE weighs 2.6 tonnes despite sitting on a purpose-built EV platform). ![]()
